Dentures

Dentist in Burlington

Have you lost some or all of your teeth? If so, you’re familiar with the problems that this condition causes. You can’t speak or eat properly, leading to embarrassment and possibly poor nutrition.  You can’t feel comfortable showing off your smile. Dentures and partials are one way we can replace some or all of your teeth when damage has caused tooth loss and loss of chewing function or poor speech and embarrassing esthetics such as sunken in cheeks and lips.

Dentures and partial dentures are a set of teeth designed to be supported by the gums, any remaining teeth, and jaw bone. Full dentures are held in place using suction for the uppers and custom contours for the lowers. Implant “snaps” dentures can also help stabilize dentures, allowing your dentures or partial dentures to be held in place by titanium posts designed to mimic tooth roots. Dr. Makhlouf also provides dental implant restorations if you’re missing just a single tooth or a few teeth and don’t need a full denture.

Complete dentures replace the full upper or lower set of teeth. Partial dentures are used to replace one or more teeth when some natural teeth remain. This prevents teeth from shifting into the space left by missing teeth.

You should clean your dentures regularly using a soft bristle toothbrush and a non-abrasive cleanser. Keep your regular dental appointments as recommended. Dentures should be replaced every 5-10 years. Ask Dr. Mary Makhlouf to evaluate whether your dentures should be refit or replaced.  Also, if you have full dentures, the ADA recommends you have an annual oral cancer screening.
